--- Description of Workshops ---

Wed 11 Jul '07, 7:30p - 9:30p (2 hr workshop)

If you want to look good when you dance, forget about sporadic
styling. The first step to looking good is to work on the one thing
you do most often - your salsa basic step. There's a lot more to the
salsa basic step then just the 6 steps. Do you know when and how to
transfer the weight between each foot? What should your posture be
like? Should you be swaying your body? What should you do with your
arms? How should you be moving your shoulders, in relation to your
arms, in relation to your ribs, in relation to your hips, in relation
to your knees, etc.?

Find out the answers in this two-hour workshop (suitable for both men
and ladies).

Wed 18 Jul '07, 8:30p - 9:30p (1 hr workshop)

This one-hour workout session is focused on isolating and building
muscle control of the different parts of the body, frequently used in
salsa body movement. The more isolated your muscles and the better
your body control, the more fluid you can be in your salsa body movements.

This workshop will definitely challenge your muscle ability and
physical coordination, and help you discover muscles you never knew
existed! Be prepared to sweat! This workshop is suitable for both men
and ladies.

*FREE* 15-min teaser on Fri 13 Jul, 945p to 10p (just before SOCIAL
NIGHT). Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis, and is
limited to the first 26 registrants.

Shines are a sequence of footwork performed individually, to the
rhythm and accents in the music. When performing open shines, you have
the freedom to move and interpret the music in any way you like. Other
than offering a welcome break after unending turn patterns, shines are
a great way to improve:
Footwork speed
Overall body coordination
Timing and precision
Agility in body movement
Appreciation and use of syncopation in the music

Tue 31 Jul, 7, 14 & 21 Aug '07, 7:30p - 8:30p (1 hr x 4 weeks workshop)

Ladies! Now that you've got your footwork and turns down, it's time to
add some sizzle to your dance. That's what styling is all about -
adding arm and body movements that help accentuate your sensuality.

In this four-lesson course, you'll be introduced to some classic
styling moves for the beginner to intermediate dancer, which include:
what to do with your arms during cross lead turns
moves you can perform while doing your basic step
moves you can do on the 1-2-3
how to jazz up your enchufla

And to really help you internalize the moves, you can invite a partner
down to practise your new moves on, for the last 20 mins of each lesson.

Tue 31 Jul, 7, 14 & 21 Aug '07, 8:30p - 9:30p (1 hr x 4 weeks workshop)

You can't go to a salsa club here without encountering Bachata. This
dance is now hugely popular among salsa dancers here. It's a very
romantic dance, and a great way to cosy up with that special someone.

In this 4-week workshop, discover how to dance the Bachata with the
right body movement. As Bachata is all about hips, learn the secrets
to swaying your body and thrusting your hips on the one-beat pause in
a sensuous and fluid manner. That will make the difference between
marching and dancing.

When you get into a tight place, and everything goes against you till it seems as if you couldn't hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that 's just the place and time that the tide 'll turn.
